Lockout Protection

Many serious accidents have happened due to a machine being started when it should have been shut down to repair or maintenance. These accidents are often the result of stored energy that has not been properly released. Lock-out-tag-out (LOTO) that ensures that machines are completely off until an authorized person releases them, helps prevent these kinds of accidents.
The LOTO system is comprised of a variety of locks, tags, and other devices used to isolate, secure or shut off a machine from electricity. All "affected" and "authorized" personnel must be trained in the use of these devices. These devices include but aren't only chains, locks padlocks and wedges, adapter pins and self-locking fasteners. Each device is uniquely identified and labeled, containing the date and the time of application and the name of the authorized person, and the reason for the tag-out or lockout (repair or maintenance, for example). It must be stated clearly that these devices are not able to be removed until a thorough LOTO procedure has been carried out.
